Position: Vice President - Commercial Underwriter

Underwriter will handle communication among parties and legal counsel involved in Ohio and national large commercial transactions and handle underwriting issues that may arise from time to time in residential transactions. Underwriter will work with owners/lawyers, State of Ohio title underwriter (and underwriters in other states), review title commitments, handle title objections, and issue final title policies.

  1. Follow up on title examinations ordered in Ohio and elsewhere to insure timely distribution to parties
  2. Coordinate all correspondence between the parties to the transaction. Confirm that all parties have most current commitment, all Schedule B documents, vesting deed(s), tax information and closing checklist
  3. Demonstrate superior customer service skills in communicating with all parties to a transaction, state and national title underwriters as well as national commercial services offices
  4. Process Purchaser's and Lender's title objections/requests and review of survey with local underwriters and/or national commercial services offices
  5. Prepare Proforma Policies for Ohio transactions (or coordinate the preparation of Pro Forma policies out of state)
  6. Review and/or coordinate distribution of closing checklists, clearance spreadsheets, undertakings and other title clearance for closing
  7. Organize paper & computer files so all documentation is complete, accurate and easily accessible.
  8. Communicate to the parties, underwriter and/or national commercial services office(s) requests for documents, affidavits and other matters, including, but not limited to, questions regarding recording requirements, transfer and mortgage taxes and forms, real estate taxes and other clearance items
  9. Work with parties and national commercial office underwriters to provide requested documentation to underwrite requested coverages and cover risk
  10. Communicate with, and review, national commercial services office handling of escrow to ensure that pro formas comply with customer instructions, liens to be paid through closing are included on the disbursement statement, any pertinent knowledge received about the closing is shared, documents are received for recording, and out of state offices and payees are paid in a timely fashion.
  11. Handle the preparation and delivery of closing packages for recording and policy issuance and follow up on post-closing matters, for single and multi-site transactions. Handle all post-closing or prepare files prior to delivering to national commercial services office(s) for large multi-site transactions.
  12. Perform and/or oversee all other transaction related duties

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive commercial title experience
  • Law license helpful, but not required
