Our client is searching for an experienced technologist to join the management team as Director of Development and Data Analytics in San Diego.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for systems architecture, software development and data analytics. The Director will be expected to partner with the CIO to execute on the strategic objectives for the Credit Unions technology platforms.

The Director will build and lead multiple, high performing agile teams and adopt the latest tools and technologies within a micro-services architecture. The candidate must exhibit strong leadership and communication skills, easily speak to technical and non-technical audiences, define and successfully execute on the engineering and release priorities in an agile environment.

This position is accountable for managing multiple technical projects of moderate to high complexity that require considerable resources. Provides leadership; exercises judgment and independent decision-making; motivates and manages enterprise-wide teams; transforms strategies into implementation plans to achieve key success measures on time and within budget.

DIMENSIONS

  • Concurrent management of 2 to 4 Scrum Teams.
  • Collaborates with senior management and staff of 25 departments, 28 branches, and call center, as well as multiple external vendors and organizations.
  • Manages complex projects that have substantial effect on member service and significantly impact the financial standing and overall welfare of the credit union.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position reports directly to the Chief Information Officer.
  • There are seven staff that report directly to the Director of Development and Data Analytics. The staff includes Data Analysts, Core (Symitar) Programmers and .Net Software Developers

NATURE & SCOPE:

Software Development:

  • Develop and maintain system architecture utilizing SOA principles and strategic engineering roadmap for the credit union while driving continuous process improvement and innovation.
  • Work in an agile development environment leading multiple teams of software engineers in new development and ongoing maintenance activities.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and work closely with team members to remove impediments.
  • Work with product owners and project delivery teams to drive the Agile process, including release and sprint cycles, to ensure high quality releases delivered on schedule.
  • Lead the iterative improvement of software deployment processes to improve frequency and quality of releases.
  • Work with product owners and engineering leads to determine priorities and create technical solutions.
  • Proactively provide clear, transparent communication on team progress within the organization via project timelines and risk assessments.
  • Recruit and cultivate high performing teams by attracting high performing team members, mentoring them on their career growth, and inspiring them to continue to grow and improve.
  • Manage performance of team members through goal setting and measurement, coaching, recognition, and feedback through regular check-ins and formal performance reviews.
  • Mentor team leads and senior engineers to cultivate improved leadership across the team.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of software development through collaboration with peers including architectural reviews, security and compliance reviews, code reviews, quality gates, and the delivery pipeline.
  • Regularly evaluate team composition to improve efficiency and effectiveness, hold team(s) accountable for commitments and constantly facilitate higher velocity and quality

Data Analytics:

  • Own and manage the data warehouse infrastructure (data management and visualization capabilities)
  • Lead the Data Architecture team to continuously innovate on internal processes and tools, advance analytics methodologies, and be a creative force in the development of a comprehensive analytics roadmap.
  • Build and maintain strong partner relationships, provide thought leadership in framing the business issues, and use data insights to advise on growth strategies for scaling.
  • Acquire and maintain in-depth understanding of business processes and systems in order to meet reporting needs, data integration needs and drive strategy.
  • Identify areas of improvement and work with product owners to implement strategies to address key problem areas.
  • Sell ideas and inform decision-making using clear critical metrics and evidence based mindset, and foster a data-driven culture.
  • Develop presentations for management reviews in an accurate and timely fashion, and communicate to executives and business leaders.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the credit union data assets.
  • Research and analyze current and evolving technology (machine learning, predictive analytics), products and services to identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements that have a significant impact on time, labor costs, direct costs, member service and satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience at a senior level leading a team of engineers
  • Extensive hands-on software development experience with.Net/Java, Microsoft SQL (or equivalent).
  • Extensive years of hands on experience in design and development of multi-tier, modular, API driven solutions.
  • Experience in developing, gaining sponsorship and implementing strategic IT roadmap
  • History of using SDLC tools and techniques to make the development process more automated and efficient. Prior experience working with Agile Methodology (Scrum, Sprint Planning, Product Backlogs, Sprint Backlogs) and TFS to manage Sprint Cycles (usage and reporting) a must
  • Development experience in FinTech and/or financial services a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and manage competing priorities and provide actionable input to business and technical executive decision makers.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and be able tailor these to his/her audience (IT staff, peers, business partners and executives)
  • Successful track record of recruiting, retaining and developing talent & 3rd party development and technology partners and holding them accountable for results.
  • Requires broad knowledge of data warehouse systems, including servers, interfaces, networks and related hardware and software.
  • Experience with database query/reporting tools
  • Must be independent, innovative, creative, organized and capable of managing multiple tasks, as well as setting individual day-to-day priorities. At the same time must demonstrate the core values of personalized, caring service to internal and external members.
